A new prize is set to be launched in the name of Dr. Ghazi Abdulrahman Algosaibi, one of the Arab World’s most prominent poets; it was announced by the family.
The Ghazi Algosaibi Prize is likely be launched by the end of 2011 or in the beginning of 2012, according to Suhail Algosaibi, Dr. Algosaibi’s eldest son and official spokesperson for the Ghazi Algosaibi family.
“The purpose of the prize is to help, recognise and promote talented Arab poets,” said Suhail Algosaibi.
“The recipient will be chosen by a selection committee consisting of family members, knowledgeable intellectuals and friends of my late father,” said Algosaibi. “The prize is also a way for the family to preserve the Ghazi Algosaibi’s name for future generations. We might also add other categories over time, including a general literary prize, and maybe even a public administration prize,” explained Algosaibi.
Dr. Ghazi Algosaibi served as Minister of Labour in Saudi Arabia and held many high- ranking positions in the Government since the mid 1970s, and was also one of the best-selling poets, author and novelist. Dr. Algosaibi passed away in August 2010.
