The Kingdom of Bahrain, being a leading country in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), on Monday announced the criteria for eContent Award 2011 competition.
The organizing committee during a Press conference announced the participation and evaluation criteria and details of the award.
Organized by the eGovernment Authority and Bahrain Internet Society, the eContent award will be held under the patronage of Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Supreme Committee for ICT.
The award aims at supporting the talent in the ICT field Bahrain by honouring innovative electronic products within the ten categories, and also promoting these winners globally whereby the qualified winners will represent the Kingdom in the World Summit Award (WSA).
“The Bahrain eContent Award is an initiative that has been launched in 2005 by Bahrain Internet Society, in cooperation with the public and private sectors,” said Nawaf Abdulrahman, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Representative of the Bahrain Internet Society.
“Bahrain eContent Award is driven from World Summit Award (WSA) and concerned of eContent industry in Bahrain to improve the eContent quality and stimulate the creativity and innovation,” he added.
The registration will remain open till 28th, February and all prospective contenders are encouraged to participate in the most innovative competition.
The jury of five will evaluate the Bahrain participations from 5th to 9th of March 2011, starting from the 10th to 23rd, March, 2011 the participations for the nomination of the World Summit Award (WSA) will be selected. By the end of March 2011, the winners names will be announced and awarded by Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology, in all the categories.
The categories include e-Government, e-Entertainment, e-Health, e-Learning, e-Science, e-Inclusion, e-Business, e-Culture, e-Banking and e-Media.
“The Bahrain eContent Award was launched due to the increasing role played by the ICT industry in the national economy, in line with nationalization of this industry in the Kingdom of Bahrain according to the Bahrain’s Vision 2030,” said Ubaidly Al Ubaidly, Member of the Organizing Committee, Representative of the Private Sector.
“The award is launch in order to support the local electronic products, according to the international standards, competitive, and high efficiency.”
“The organizing committee considered different aspects before launching the Bahrain eContent Award 2011, as we’ve ensured the cooperation between the public and private sectors through the formation of the committee members.”
“The registration is still open for all Bahraini individuals, government ministries and entities, private sector businesses, civil society institutions, and will continue until 28th February 2011,” said Ahmed Naeemi, member of the Organizing Committee, Representative of the Bahrain Internet Society.

The organizing Committee oversees the award processes which cover two phases prior to announcing the winners. The first phase includes the registration of participants, classification of presented e-products participation and ensuring that all entries comply with the terms and conditions of the competition. In the second phase, the Jury Committee evaluates participated electronic products according to the criteria applied by the World Summit Award (WSA).
The Jury Committee will comprise a number of local and international academics experts in the ICT, web design, and multimedia fields. All electronic products will be evaluated according to the international version of the award, which will focus on the quality and comprehensive of content, ease of use, added value, attraction of the design, quality of technical realization, and the strategic importance for the global development of the information society.
