Marking yet another step in staff development and safety assurance, Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) hosted a specialized technical training course in Obstacle Limitations and Assessment Training recently.
Involving staff from BAC and the Civil Aviation Authority, the four-day programme was conducted by airsight, a renowned German consulting, engineering services, software and training company in the aviation industry.
Obstacle limitation approaches are intended to ensure that there are safe areas throughout Bahrain International Airport’s (BIA) airside (runway and taxi-way) which need to be kept clear of obstacles to manage possible incidents. The creation of such areas is required under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regulations for the assurance of safety operations in any airport, and the general safety of its surroundings. The objective of the training course was to teach trainees ways to assess and identify infringements to such areas and accordingly develop the appropriate safety measures.
The training course is part of BAC’s plan for staff development in line with international standards, and to assure best safety practices are applied. The program is also a prime example of the strong partnership between BAC and the Civil Aviation Authority, as they work towards the common goal of establishing BIA as the ‘Best Airport for Bahrain’.
