Eighty five exhibitors have confirmed their participation in the 8th Bahrain International Garden Show (BIGS) 2011 that will now take place from April 8 to 10 at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre.
“Due to the postponement of the event three of the exhibitors have backed out from the BIGS, from United Arab Emirates, Italy and South Africa and now we have total of 85 exhibitors,” said General Co-ordinator of BIGS, Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa at a press conference.
The event will be held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad and will be opened Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa on April 7 at the BIEC.
The theme of three-day event is ‘Inspiring Agricultural Sustainability’ which showcases variety of garden displays, exhibits, demonstrations in addition to lectures.
“The hall one will have the exhibition of goods related landscaping and gardening and hall two will highlight the talents of participants and designers,” said Shaikha Maram.
“To ensure the success of the event, the organising committee of BIGS has made a partnership agreement with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) in order to take advantage of its advanced agricultural experience,” she said.
“We also have the support of Tamkeen that has offered financial assistance of 30 agricultural enterprises that want to take part in the show. This also includes the farmers and businesses.”
The BIGS will carry a strong message to promote sustainable agricultural practices. This critical world issue will be highlighted in a comprehensive display showing the different roles that individuals, companies and policy makers can play in ensuring the best utilization of precious resources and a better future for the generations to come.
The Bahrain garden Club is also organizing the 47th Annual Amateur Flower and Vegetable Competition as part of the activities of BIGS.
“Some of competitions of the show have already been judged as it is seasonal and its results are announced, while the prizes will be given at the official opening ceremony.”
“Many economic benefits have been achieved since the BIGS have emerged as a bigger platform as the exhibitors and companies got huge scope to promote themselves.”
“Over 25,000 visitors attended the event last year from across the world among them the huge number of guests from the GCC, especially Saudi Arabia that come to visit this show, which contributes in boosting the economy with the occupancy of hotels, shopping malls, hotels and restaurants,” she said.
Many projects have been initiated since the beginning of BIGS in 2004 such as funds to support the farmers launched last year and many more will come up by the end of this show.”
The event will be open to the public from April 8 to 10, between 10am to 9pm. Entry fee is 500 fils for a three-day pass and for children under 12 is free.
