Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions (GFBTU) have called on concerned parties to ensure safety of citizens and expatriates and guarantee easy and secure movement of the workforce to and from their workplaces.
In a joint statement on Thursday, both sides called to reduce the number of check-points on the roads as much as possible underlining the need to promote efforts to mend the rift among citizens, protect social cohesion and national unity and combat calls inciting division and sectarianism. They also emphasized the importance of dialogue as the best way to steer the country out of the crisis pointing out the key role of official media in fostering brotherhood, justice and national unity.
BCCI hailed national decision taken by GFBTU to suspend the strike and resume work yesterday describing the step as a reflection of the federation’s concern for the national and economic interest. The chamber expressed hope all affiliated trade unions would adhere to the decision.
Maintaining the work momentum and dedication is a national duty dictated by Islam and any laxity in fulfilling this duty in any sector will tamper with the sustainable economic development, it was revealed.
Such serious, constructive and courageous steps reflect high level of awareness, it was stressed. Both sides also called on officials in the private sector to show understanding of the exceptional circumstance Bahrain is going through while dealing with the labour force and their legitimate rights.
