The Education Ministry has decided to suspend the scholarships of 40 students out of the 400 studying abroad at the government’s expenses, announced the Education Ministry’s Director of Public Relations and Media Dr. Nabeel Al Assoomi, explaining that those students have failed to meet the terms of the scholarships as they committed serious illegal and unconstitutional violations.
“The ministry has granted those students scholarships, costing thousands of Bahraini Dinars, according to special conditions among which are good conduct and commitment not to harm the country image abroad in any way, and because they explicitly breached those conditions and called for the downfall of the ruling system, the same system that has allowed them to study at the most renowned world universities in order to be productive citizens that take part in the building of the nation, not something else, the Ministry has decided to deprive them from a privilege they do not deserve, as any government will do in similar cases,” he said.
He also said that the suspension of scholarships for those students will take effect starting from the next academic year as the ministry had already paid the studying expenses for this year, 2010-2011, noting that the decision includes the fees only.
