GCC Secretary General Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Attiyah has reiterated full-fledged support to all steps undertaken by Bahrain to regain stability and prepare a favourable climate to start the comprehensive national dialogue, achieve a national consensus and press ahead with the development march spearheaded by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
The GCC Secretary General re-affirmed rejection of any foreign interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs whatsoever its nature and source are.
“The GCC member states will never allow any foreign parties to jeopardize security of Bahrain and the Bahraini people,” he said stressing the GCC countries’ commitment to defend the kingdom’s civilizational, economic and social achievements.
He also expressed surprise at false allegations regarding deployment of the Peninsula Shield troops in Bahrain stressing legitimacy of their presence as per joint defence agreements signed by the GCC countries.
The forces have been deployed at a request by Bahrain to protect its vital economic establishments and, contrary to what are said, have nothing to do with internal security which is directly vested in the kingdom’s internal security forces.
“The ideal way to overcome the current situation in Bahrain is to place the national interest above anything else and discard any foreign interventions,” he concluded.
