Spain defended Bahrain’s sovereign decision to seek military assistance from the GCC countries to maintain its national security and stability.
“The decision to dispatch Saudi and GCC forces followed a recent GCC meeting”, said Spanish Foreign Minister Trinidad Jimenez.
She was answering a question during a press conference held in Damascus with her Syrian counterpart in Walid Al Moallem.
She said that the GCC countries had taken a decision to provide assistance for any member states in need of help.
She pointed out that ongoing protests in Bahrain were different from the situation gripping Libya.
“The situation in the Kingdom of Bahrain is totally different from Libya and won’t yield similar results”, she said.
