Bahrain Bourse participated in the 11th Conference of Central Securities Depositories that was held at Cape Town in South Africa. The conference brought together 230 delegates from 65 countries, representing 70 Central Securities Depositories.
Shaikh Khalifa bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, Deputy Director of IT and CDS of Bahrain Bourse accompanied by Abdulla Abdin, Head of Settlement and Central Depository of Bahrain Bourse attended the conference.
The conference, addressed the latest IT and technical systems used by CSD companies and the member countries. The conference called for the five Regional CSD associations to enhance the inter association communications by activating the agreement between the members. The significance of exchanging information, on both the technical and regulatory level was also discussed.
In addition, the conference discussed the possibility of establishing a regulatory committee consisting of the members in order to study the final suggestions proposed. The participants also studied the proposal of preparing “Cross-Border Backup” systems to build a shared database between the countries that can be used in managing crisis such as national disasters.
At the end, Mohamed Abdel Salam, Chairman of Misr for Central Clearing, Depository and Registry “MCDR”, was elected as Chairman of the World Forum of CSDs “WFC” and Yoshinobu Takeuchi, President and CEO of Japan Securities Depository Center “JASDEC” as the Vice Chairman. The election was approved by the countries participating in the conference.
