The traders, suppliers and food supply chain representatives on Thursday assured about the normalcy in the consumer and food supply chain after a brief interruption during the recent troubles.
The Minister of Industry and Commerce valued all sincere efforts made by many Bahraini traders and citizens those who cooperated with the Ministry in providing all requirements of consumer’s basic foodstuffs and goods during recent crisis in the country, stressing in this regard the importance of cooperation between all parties, so that they can deal with any circumstance may occur and cause citizens and residents interests.
This came during the 30th meeting of National Price Control Committee on Thursday which was attended by committee members. The meeting praised the efforts of traders, importers and business owners related to food, who had national role in helping the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce in particular in providing citizens and residents needs of basic materials during the crisis recently, and their hard and continuous work to support commercial shops in different areas of the country with its requirements, which were reflected on prices stability for most commodities.
The meeting praised Ministry’s efforts during recent crisis and its continuing work to ensure the flow of goods and foodstuffs in particular to all areas in Bahrain, alluding to close cooperation and coordination with some traders and companies that have had a prominent role in this aspect.
Chairman of Bahrain Livestock Company Ebrahim Zainal confirmed company’s keenness to provide chilled meat to consumers during the period of slaughter interruption in the Central market and sold as the price of government subsidized meat.
He also confirmed the availability of a sufficient stock of cattle for the coming period as well as flour and wheat, which is keen by Flour Company to provide fixed stock for at least six month. He noted in this context to the generous support provided by the government for the consumers in all circumstances.
Undersecretary of Municipalities of agriculture affairs Salman Al Khozaei addressed a number of investors to establish a new livestock company and slaughter house to provide services for consumers and to enhance food security.
Al Khozaei also confirmed to cooperate with other relevant actors, especially the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to develop poultry sector and to provide this material all the times of the year. In addition is to study many projects of this aspect.
In regard to market movement, Redha Al Bustani said that market movement was back to normal and the availability of all required quantities of vegetables and fruits at the same prices as usual, but many of the have dropped their prices.
In regard to international prices, Hamid Al Derazi said to some studies conducted by the World Food Organization about the progress of prices of some agricultural materials and expectations for the near future. He noted the importance of pursing such studies and built upon relevant national strategies. Dr. Abdulla Al Sadiq confirmed the importance of such studies that give clear indicators and scientific in this aspect.
