Egypt’s top Islamic scholar has urged Iran not to interfere in the internal affairs of Bahrain and all other Arab countries.
“The developments and problems rattling the Arab world are purely internal affairs”, Cairo-based Al-Azhar University President Dr Ahmed Al-Tayeb voiced the stance.
Speaking at a press conference at the prestigious bastion of Islamic Knowledge, he stressed that peoples in the region can address their own problems and internal affairs.
He urged Tehran not to pursue its interference policies to avert any seditions or futile bloodshed.
Dr. Al-Tayeb underscored the importance of respecting good-neighbourliness so as to promote constructive dialogue between the Sunni world and the Shias, stressing the keenness of Iran and Al-Azhar to promote inter-sectarian understanding towards cement Islamic unity in the world. He also defended the decision to dispatch the Peninsula Shield forces in Bahrain.
“The GCC joint defence pacts allow the deployment of the Peninsula shield Force”, he said, stressing the need to respect the move to maintain security and stability.
He also described the decision as in line with the GCC joint cooperation.
Dr. Al-Tayeb also urged assistance for people in distress and dire need, particularly in the Arab countries, which witness bloody internecine confrontations.
