Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa asserted concern of Bahrain and the GCC countries over the Iranian interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs.
Speaking at the 21st meeting of the GCC-EU Ministerial Council, held in Abu Dhabi today, he described the Iranian meddling as a violation of all international conventions and the principle of good neighbourly relations.
He stressed the legitimacy of the Peninsula Shield Force deployment in Bahrain as per the GCC by-law and defence agreements signed by the GCC member states.
He pointed out major changes in the Arab world stressing that the reform and development process in Bahrain, Which was launched by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa ten years ago, is going on and will not stop despite existing challenges.
“Challenges will only enhance our resolve to continue the building process in order to boost democracy and bring about more achievements,” Shaikh Khalid said.
The meeting spotlighted ways of bolstering cooperation between the GCC countries and the European Union and coordinate stances regarding issues of common interest.
