The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) on Thursday slammed Al-Wasat newspaper for publishing the fabricated news.
The IFJ regional forum for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) has also rapped the Bahraini daily for plagiarizing photos relating to events abroad, to deceive readers into believing that they concern incidents inside Bahrain. It also stood by the stances undertaken by the Bahrain Journalists Association in defending journalists during the deplorable incidents which gripped Bahrain and commitment to freedom of opinion, principles and values. The IFJ stance came during a MENA press gathering in Casablanca, Morocco.
“The meeting strongly condemned Al-Wasat for flouting the code of professional press ethics, describing the flagrant fabrication as a bleak stain in the history of Bahrain press”, BJA member Ahmed Al-Moudawab told Bahrain News Agency (BNA).
He revealed that the IFJ would issue a detailed statement denouncing Al-Wasat plagiarism and fabrication and press the Bahrain daily to apologise and assume its responsibility for spreading falsified news.
