Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, who held talks with the leadership of Bahrain on Tuesday, said that Iran should respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Bahrain and other neighboring countries.
Ahmet Davutoglu, who was joined by his Bahraini counterpart Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa during the briefing at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, said that he was encouraged with the Bahrain’s efforts bringing peace and normalcy back.
Responding to a question he said that Turkish Premier held talks with his Iraqi counterpart and discussed the ways and means of further co-operation in all vital sectors.
“Turkey enjoys good and cordial ties with Iran and other GCC countries and will continue working closely with Bahrain in creating GCC as a global platform,” he said.
“Bahrain’s stability and security will continue to serve as a vital pillar to the stability of entire GCC region,” he said.
“Turkey and Bahrain have been working together to further cement the bilateral and GCC-Turkey ties over the years. Turkey believes sovereignty, stability, prosperity and security of Bahrain are essential ingredients of maintaining the pace of development of ties between the two sides,” Turkish Foreign Minister told a Press conference.
He said that the strategic importance of the GCC as a bloc would continue to serve as a vital pillar to the global peace.
“If this oil rich GCC bloc remains stable and prosperous, the entire world will continue to enjoy peace and harmony or vice versa,” he warned.
Ahmet Davutoglu, who also held talks with the Bahrain’s leadership, said Bahrain has been a prime example of peaceful country where all people of many faiths live together in great harmony.
“Bahrain’s identity is above sectarian or religious considerations which are a good example for other countries and we feel that the current situation Bahrain will be resolved soon,” he said.
Talking about Turkey possible role perhaps as a mediator the Turkish top diplomat said he would look forward meeting all civil society leaders but Turkey would not play any role as mediator.
“Turkey feels that the current situation is Bahrain’s internal affair and has the capability and will to address the problems areas as part of the ongoing reforms which had started a decade ago. Turkey is a great partner of Bahrain continues consult this great country on all issues of common interest in future as well,” he said.
Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said he discussed the current situation with his Turkish counterpart as well as regional situation.
Replying to a question Shaikh Khalid said Bahrain would continue to seek good ties with all neighbours including Iran. “Bahrain will not allow polarization in any form as national cohesion will help in maintaining the entire country together as one nation,” he explained.
Earlier, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa thanked Turkey for its support to the Arab and Islamic causes as well as its backing to Bahrain’s measures to maintain its security, stability and territorial unity.
He was speaking as he met with the Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu who conveyed to him the greetings of Turkish President Abduallah Gull and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan as well as their best wishes of further progress and prosperity to Bahrain.
HRH the Prime Minister lauded strong bilateral relations mainly in the political and economic fields stressing the need to further bolster bilateral cooperation for the common interest of both countries.
The Turkish Foreign Minister underlined his country’s rejection of any foreign interference seeking to harm Bahrain and jeopardize its security and stability stressing Bahrain’s strategic importance at the regional and international level and Turkey’s keenness on the kingdom’s unity and stability.
Regional and international issues of common concern were also discussed.
