Bahrain University announced a string of measures following the deplorable acts of vandalism which wreaked havoc on its facilities. A college female dean and seven other university teachers have been sacked. “The measures followed the recommendations of the probe committees”, University media and public relations committee in a statement said.
The University has addressed an ultimate warning to a woman teacher and notified another female colleague in writing. It has also sacked 25 administrators, 62 students and suspended 8 others for a whole academic year. Five other students enrolled at foreign universities for their PhD degrees had their state scholarships stopped.
The three probe committees, in charge of investigating teachers, administrators and students respectively, based their recommendations on the acts of vandalism which cause massive damage at the university and endangered students’ lives. The panel heard a large number of witnesses and took notice of compelling evidence. The panels include acknowledged academicians and legal experts. The university is still questioning other people suspected of involvement in the acts of vandalism and other anti-government activities.
