Bahrain’s Labour Minister Jamil bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan who discussed with the International Labour Organization (ILO) Director General Juan Somavia the repercussions of the recent exceptional incidents in Bahrain and their effects on the local labour market said that all legal aspects of dismissals of workers were being reviewed.
Both sides also spotlighted the outcome of ILO delegation’s visit to the Kingdom last April which aimed at following up closely on developments in Bahrain and the reasons for the dismissal of some workers.
The ILO Director General was also briefed about the latest developments, including mainly the instructions of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to set up a probe panel to investigate workers’ dismissal and ensure legal warranties are taken care of.
“Measures taken by the government to protect labour rights and achievements as part of the kingdom’s comprehensive reform march were also highlighted,” the Minister said.
The Kingdom’s international status which, he said could not be affected by exceptional incidents or inaccurate information. He emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting the labour rights and ensures legal warranties for dismissed workers.
He also voiced the ILO Director General’s keenness to boost social dialogue and promote trade unionism in Bahrain.
