Arab Labour Organisation (ALO) on Thursday urged the member states to create more job opportunities and decent work place for the younger generations in the years to come.
Labour Minister and Arab Labour Organisation chairman Jameel Humaidan presided over the 75th ALO board meeting, in the presence of Arab labour ministers and heads of delegations.
The session discussed the key issues relating to the implementation of the decisions undertaken by the ALO conference, which was held in Bahrain in March 2010.
The decisions concern particularly the problems of poverty and unemployment in the Arab World as well the need to provide aid packages and technical expertise for needy countries to create work opportunities for young jobseekers, under the budget approved by Kuwait Economic Summit 2009 and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development.
The delegations agreed on the need for Arab countries to step up efforts and provide productive and decent work opportunities for youngsters and help integrate them in the development programmes by promoting their skills. They also discussed ways of promoting the efficiency of the Arab Labour Organization by engaging governments, businessmen and workers. They also play the crucial role of the Arab Labour Organization in promoting social dialogue to promote the rights and interests of all parties in the Arab World.
The participants discussed the key decisions taken in the 38th ALB session, which concluded today in Cairo, hailing the re-election of Ahmed Loqman as ALO director general for a new four-year term. Saudi Labour Minister Adel Faqih has also been elected unanimously as ALO council chairman for one year, until the forthcoming ALO conference, scheduled to be held in 2012. The delegations have also praised Bahrain’s presidency of the Arab Labour Organization board, stressing particularly its hosting of the ALO 37th session in Manama.
