Information Affairs Authority President Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa, who honoured 286 IAA outstanding employees on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day, underlined the importance of freedom of expression and its role in strengthening the democracy in the country.
The ceremony was held at the Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea and Spa, in the presence of several Shura Council members, editors in chief and journalists. Addressing the ceremony, IAA President hailed His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa’s keynote address, in which he paid tribute to the noble media profession and reaffirmed commitment to freedom of opinion – being a cornerstone of the reform project and development march.
Shaikh Fawaz credited HM King Hamad’s reform project for expanding the scope of freedom of expression towards anchoring the democratization march in the prosperous era.
Shaikh Fawaz extended thanks and appreciation to His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa, stressing the Government’s keenness to promote press freedom.
He hailed the Premier’s keynote address marking the World Press Freedom Day. Shaikh Fawaz has also announced plans to the develop the Foreign Correspondents’ Club to ensure better services for its members and provide facilities for reporters who visit Bahrain to cover various events.
