Following directives from the Interior Minister Lt. General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa to speed up probing into the death of Ali Isa Saqr in detention, the Military Courts Directorate at the Interior Ministry (Interior Ministry’s Military Prosecution) has quizzed a number of guard officers and detention officials, the Interior Ministry’s Under-secretary for Legal Affairs announced here on Wednesday.
The investigations carried out so far have shown that there is evidence that five guards of the detention cell of the deceased violated law and committed criminal acts, and therefore, they were arrested and will be tried by the concerned military court, he said.
He also pointed out that the move is in line with the interior Ministry’s keenness to apply the principle of accountability against those found to have committed any violations, and in accordance with its commitment to protecting human rights, pledging zero tolerance for those who have breached laws or tampered with human rights principles.
