The Lower National Safety Court heard four criminal cases, the Military Prosecutor said.
In the first case in which Suleiman Yahya Hamza was accused of attempted murder of a number of policemen for terrorist ends, the court heard the military prosecution’s pleading containing a detailed description of the incident and compelling evidence showing that the suspect intended to kill the policemen present at the checkpoint as he was driving fast towards them, demanding the court to inflict severe punishment against him.
After that, the court heard the defence’s concluding presentation in which he pleaded the defendant not guilty, and decided to adjourn the case for May 5 for deliberation.
In another case, Hassan Abdulwahab appeared before the court over charges of covering up another suspect and holding a weapon stolen from a policeman. In this regard, the Military Prosecutor delivered its presentation including details of the crime and evidence. The court, under the defence’s request, decided to hear the same case next May 5, hears defence witnesses and allow the defence to present its pleading.
In the third case, in which Hamad Yusif Kadhim faced charges of attempted murder of policemen and spoiling public money, the court heard the defence witnesses’ testimonies and decided to put off the case till May 8 for the final pleading.
In the last case ten people stood trial over charges of kidnapping a public security officer. They will also stand trial anew on May 5 under the defence’s request.
Present were Alice Sama’an and Tariq Al Saffar from the National Human Rights Organisation, Salman Nasser from the Gulf European Center for Human Rights, the defendants and their relatives.
