The Minister of Industry and Commerce Dr Hassan A Fakhro, who led the 4th and last meeting of steering Committee of New Economic Industrial City, said that the City would open a new era of progress and development in the country.
“The new economic city project aims primarily to enable Bahrain to compete internationally and attract foreign capital and investment through creating a high level infrastructure and develop regulations with global trends,” the Minister said.
“It is also expected that this huge project to provide many direct or indirect jobs in the future,” he added.
The meeting was attended by the General Manager of Public Commission for Protection Marine Resources, Environment and wildlife Dr Adel Al Zayani, Acting Undersecretary of Industrial Affairs Osama Al Arrayed, Baitek CEO Nader Al Moayyed, GPIC President Abdulrahman Al Jawahry, GARMCO CEO Dr. Adel Al Rayes and representatives from Ministry of Finance, EDB, Electricity and Water Authority, Oil and Gas Authority, the Ministry of Municipalities, , and Arthur D. Company.
The minister welcomed Committee members wishing them success in their works.
Arthur D. Little Company Samir Anis conducted a presentation with a brief introduction to what have been covered already, and discussed the expected effects of the new industrial city on Kingdom’s economic situation, especially in light vision 2030 objective.
The presentation also contained details of the potential sites of the city based on certain criteria, followed by an explanation of how to implement the strategy of the new economic industrial city effectively and according to a specific program. Finally the presentation viewed the risk that might be exposed to the project and steps that should be taken to carry out the implementation.
“This city will embrace a mixture of various activities that will have a major role in developing Bahrain’s economy, confirming cooperation between public and private sector in planning and designing process will have an impact on project success,” the Minister said.
Dr. Fakhro also confirmed leadership and government interest on such ambitious projects that will enhance Bahrain’s position economically and developmentally.
