Industry and Commerce Minister Dr. Hassan Abdulla Fakhro, who chaired the 8th meeting of Coordinating Committee to support Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), said that SMEs would continue to play a crucial role in the national development.
The Committee was set up by the ministry to follow up issues related to the economic sector in general, in accordance with the Economic Vision for Bahrain, 2030.
Dr. Fakhro stressed the key role played by the committee to foster SMEs in light of the wise leadership’s constant support for those enterprises in order to enhance them owing to their pivotal role in bringing about economic development locally and worldwide, praising the wise leadership and the government’s confidence in the capability of those in charge of the SME sector to achieve the set goals.
The Industry and Commerce Ministry conducted a video presentation highlighting the ministry’s policies regarding SMEs in the Kingdom, and the crucial role they play in the kingdom’s economic development as they contribute significantly to Bahrain’s GDP and create job opportunities for Bahraini nationals, especially youngsters.
The presentation also briefed those present on the ministry’s policies aiming basically to encourage citizens to engage in such a promising economic sector and avail of the government’s facilities and incentives.
The meeting also discussed the feasibility study on the establishment of Export Development Centre in Bahrain.
Dr. Fakhro hailed the efforts exerted by the Committee members and all the concerned sides to upgrade the SME sector, praising the results achieved so far.
The members of the committee lauded the Industry and Commerce Ministry’s initiatives aiming to boost the economic sector in general and keenness to upgrade the quality of services provided for the citizens.
Representatives of the Bahrain Development Bank, Tamkeen (Labour Fund), UNIDO Bahrain, Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), the Bahraini Business Women Society, the Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment & Wildlife, the private sector and a number of mega national companies were present.
