Bahrain is officially off from the 2011 F1 Racing Calendar following the unanimous decision during a voting on the issue by the FIA’s Motor Sports Council.
The cancellation the Bahrain Grand Prix was confirmed by the Motorsport’s world governing body on Wednesday following a vote by the World Motor Sport Council.
Bahrain was absent in the revised calendar for the remaining races of the Formula One season published by the FIA.
“Following a fax vote of the FIA World Motor Sport Council and, by unanimous decision, the FIA Formula One World Championship calendar has been ratified as originally proposed,” FIA in a statement, said.
The Bahrain Grand Prix was originally scheduled as the season-opening race in March but was called off amid anti-government protests. Again Bahrain was hoping to host the F1 race in end of October but the decision ran into contest due to the opposition to the decision by the 12 participating teams. The teams cited logistic reasons to support their ‘no’ to rescheduled race.
According to the new calendar, the inaugural Indian Grand Prix, which had been moved to the final round of the calendar, will take place on October 30 and the season will conclude in Brazil on November 27.
