A career Diplomat Jauhar Saleem has become new Ambassador of Pakistan in Bahrain. The newly appointed envoy took over the charge from the Charge d’Affaires Aurangzeb on Thursday for a full three-year term.
Ambassador Saleem’s last posting was in Bosnia and Herzegovina from where he had been transferred and posted as a new envoy of Pakistan in Manama early this year.
Ambassador Saleem couldn’t assume the responsibility earlier because of the unprecedented events experienced by the Kingdom of Bahrain in the months of February and March. The Government of Pakistan had to resend the previous Ambassador Ikramullah Mehsud during the crisis and oversee the emergency situation for another four months.
Ambassador Saleem is a graduate of Government College Lahore, University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins University. He was also an associate at the Georgetown University.
A member of the Pakistan Foreign Service, he has served in Brasilia, Ankara, Washington and Sarajevo.
He also served at the foreign office in the Middle East, US, and Europe divisions, besides a stint as the head of Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in Lahore.
He had also served as the Director General for Europe and Eurasia for three years before being nominated as ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia in July 2007.
