Bahraini press owes a lot to the reform project, which was initiated by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa. “The national press has evolved qualitatively ever since HM the King embarked on the landmark project”, Information Affairs Authority President Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa said.
He paid tribute to HM the King as he visited Juffair-based Al-Uruba Club, which hosted the elections of the Bahrain Journalists Association. “The national press has become able to cope with the reform project, promote social development, defend national unity and highlight hard-won achievements in HM King Hamad’ s prosperous era”, Shaikh Fawaz said.
He congratulated BJA chairman Isa Al-Shaiji for his re-election unopposed for a new term. He also congratulated the eight BJA board members, hoping they would contribute in promoting the role of the BJA and the national press towards consolidating Bahrain’s media status. He also wished the defeated contestants better luck in the coming elections. “The new-look board includes an elite of journalists representing all local newspapers and media institutions”, Shaikh Fawaz said, adding that the new panel would hopefully play a crucial role in promoting Bahraini press and defend journalists’ rights. He also lauded the BJA annual assembly for approving the code of media honour.
