Leading traders, importers and retailers on Monday briefed the Minister of Industry and Commerce Dr Hassan A Fakhro about their preparedness to meet the demand during the holy month of Ramadhan.
Implementing leadership directions of the Kingdom of Bahrain to provide all citizen necessity of Ramadan goods in the markets during the holy month, Industry and Commerce Minister Dr. Hassan Fakhro met in his office yesterday a number of food traders to know the extent readiness of markets in Bahrain.
During the meeting the minister thanked all food traders on their continuous cooperation with the Ministry to provide consumption foodstuffs, which increased the demand during Ramadan, praising at the same time promotions and discounts applied by markets for consumers, which contributed significantly to revitalize market and ease consumer’s burden. Dr. Fakhro also stressed that all requirement needed by consumer in large quantities, he called upon the consumers to act naturally without rush in goods and pursue storing policy, which will affect negatively on consumers and in terms of price and inventory of the year.
The Minister also stressed that the prices are very stable and it is the most appropriate price between the GCC, and there many Gulf shoppers come for shopping in the Kingdom of Bahrain, which considered the cheaper between the countries in the region, and many of the good sold at cost in many markets. Traders presented lists confirms the stability of commodities prices and all good are available and in large quantities and the stock is up to eight months, such as rice.
The Minister stressed the importance of such meetings to enhance coordination and cooperation between the Ministry and traders to look at the latest developments first hand and take all necessary action on issues arise in a timely manner.
Dr. Fakhro praised the efforts made by backed companies Bahrain Livestock Company, Delmon Poultry Company and Bahrain Flour Mills in providing all estimated consumption quantities for the holy month. They confirmed to take all necessary measures to avoid any shortage that may occur during the coming season.
Delmon Poultry Company will provide fresh chicken and average estimated 27,000 in a daily basis. In addition to 50.000 frozen chicken as inventory in the event of a strategic shortfall except imported chilled and frozen.
Bahrain Livestock Company will launch 3000 head of sheep and 100 head of cattle per day, and this is the expected consumption in Ramadan.
The Bahrain Flour Mills will have the largest share in providing Ramadan goods. The available stock of wheat is 18600 tons is enough for two and half month and taking into account the increase in production during Ramadan. 30.000 tons of Australian wheat was bought to support the stock.
The ministry confirmed its tireless efforts to communicate with traders to make sure food stocks not only for Ramadan but always to check the preservation of this stock for a longer period.
Khalid Al Amin confirmed markets readiness of the poultry due to enter of three companies specializing in poultry filed from Saudi Arabia to the Kingdom’s market.
Dr. Fakhro transfer leadership and government wishes for all citizens and residence on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan wishing them acceptable fasting and happy Eid.
