The supply chain of petrochemical and chemical industry in the GCC is facing daunting challenges, according to the Gulf Petrochemical and Chemical Association (GPCA).
Building on the success of the last two years, the GPCA has announced its third supply chain conference.
GPCA’s Supply Chain Conference is a key event in the GCC petrochemical and chemical industry calendar. This year’s event is taking place at InterContinental Hotel, Abu Dhabi from 18-20 October 2011.
Over 300 senior supply chain professionals from the GCC region and worldwide are expected to attend this global event, which will feature a high level program dealing directly with the challenges facing the GCC supply chain today. This year’s theme, ‘Strengthening the supply chain against challenges and threats’ is designed to create discussion and debate on issues related to the opportunities and challenges within this industry. The 3-day conference will be addressed by prominent industry spokespeople, both regional and international, with speakers on Day 1 focusing on ‘Agile solutions to supply chain threats’ and Day Two’s sub-theme being ‘from piracy to personnel: Turning supply chain challenges into opportunities.’
Key topics that will also be addressed this year include combating piracy: global and regional perspectives; insights into upcoming GCC customs regulation; overcoming staffing challenges to develop a highly motivated workforce; ensuring sustainability and responsible care and winning strategies to mitigate the impact of long supply chains and third party logistics: strategies for successful cooperation.
“The Gulf region’s share of petrochemical and chemical total output is currently 16% and this will grow to 20% by the year 2015. This growth has been buoyed by the quick development of a world-class supply chain industry in the Gulf region. This massive expansion within such a short timeframe will certainly create opportunities as well as challenges. Delegates at this high-level conference can look forward to rich debate and discussion by industry leaders and executives who will provide their clear vision on the latest developments in the industry,” said Dr. Abdulwahab Al Sadoun, Secretary General of GPCA.
In addition, this year there will also be a half-day pre conference workshop on mitigating the effects of piracy on petrochemical and chemical trade flows, as well as a site visit to the impressive Khalifa Port for delegates.
The Third GPCA Supply Chain Conference is a calendar event of GPCA – a voluntary, non-profit association representing the interests and concerns of the petrochemicals and chemicals industry in the Gulf. The event is co-organized by ICIS, the leading provider of market intelligence for the global chemical industry.
