His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa received at Al-Safriya Palace members of the Royal Independent Fact-Finding Commission led by Professor Mahmoud Sharif Bassiouni marking the start of their investigative work. He welcomed the panel’s chairman and members wishing them success in their duties to achieve the goals for which the commission has been established.
HM the King described Bahrain as the country of law and institutions, reiterating the Kingdom’s firm commitment to international human rights laws and covenants. He also stressed the importance of reaffirming these principles as stipulated in the National Action Charter and the Kingdom of Bahrain’s constitution. He expressed thanks and appreciation to the commission, stressing the importance for all state agencies, institutions and ministries to facilitate its work so that it could perform its duties and meet its pre-set goals fully. He also lauded the commission chairman and members for their competence and globally-recognized expertise in the field of human rights laws, hailing their reputation. The panel chairman and members also lauded HM the King for his trust, looking forward to achieving their duty, honestly and impartially.
