After examining the misdemeanor cases referred by the National Safety Court to Civil Courts, the General Prosecution decided to release a number of detainees for legal reasons, Attorney General Abdulrahman Al Sayed said on Sunday.
He said that release warrants were issued and the concerned security sides have already been asked to implement the decisions immediately.
Abdulrahman Al Sayed also said that two former MPs and a lawyer were among those released, adding that many others had been set free.
He explained that the suspects were released basically because they had spent in custody a period that may be the same as the penalty they would get for after trial.
