Al Wasat newspaper Board Chairman Farooq Al Moayyed denounced the decision of the board taken in his absence and reappointing former Editor-in-Chief Mansoor Al Jamri. He terms the decision as invalid, illegal and incorrect.
Al Moayyed in a press statement said that he was surprised when he was notified that the topic on the former Editor-in-Chief was on the work agenda of the board although it was not within the articles of the meeting. He also expressed his refusal to the step taken by the members without informing the chairman and exploiting his absence abroad.
Al Moayyed said that Thursday’s meeting wad focused on two articles related to the newspaper and some board members added the topic to the meeting with the acceptance of the vice chairman of the board. He indicated that he stated an official rejection on this incident expressing his annoyance with what had happened.
The meeting witnessed the voting for the return of the former Editor-in-Chief and was rejected by Adel Fakro, Abdulhussain Diwani and Abdali Al Abdali and Faud Ibrahim Kanoo abstained while Al Moayyed was not present. Those that voted for the return of Al Jamri were Mazen Al Shehabi, Faisal Jawad, Ibrahim Al Deyasi, Mansoor Al Jamri, Adel Al A’ali and Adel Al Maskati while the general assembly is expected to finalise the decision on Sunday.
