Bahrain’s commitment to the education and wellbeing of their youth played a significant role during National Dialogue discussions. Many of the reforms aim to empower youth through better jobs and educational opportunities, as well as create a stronger partnership with young people through government’s programs.
MoE media spokesperson Lubna Selaibeekh said the reforms of the National Dialogue included; keeping schools open for youth activities during the summer, supporting creativity and creating training programs to better prepare youth for the global market, improving upon curriculum for disabled students, better preparing teachers to work with special needs students, and increase the use of active teaching and learning approach of citizenship and human rights education.
She commented that the Ministry of Education gives a lot of importance to the teaching of human rights education especially with regards to tolerance, conflict resolution and celebrating diversity to overcome and solve the challenges in schools. These were created and amplified by the unfortunate events that negatively affected the school environment and created divisions between pupils themselves and the teaching and administrative staff as a result of involving schools in political conflict that is against international standards.
She added that the MoE has initiated serious steps to collaborate with experienced International educational organizations such as UNESCO in this crucial matter that aims to rebuild social cohesion. Moreover, new targeted human rights educational programs will begin during the first term to train teachers to deal with challenging behavioral incidents, such as those that occurred in some schools before the summer holiday that were racist and sectarian in nature.
Al Nuami stressed the importance of adhering to the deadlines set for enacting the various reforms. The government of Bahrain continues to take serious steps towards implementing all reforms from the National Dialogue.
Al Nuami is one of several government officials to share that plans have been established to ensure progression of the reforms. Earlier this month both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Human Rights and Social Development held press conferences outlining the reforms they are working to implement.
