Twenty-three people will appear before the Criminal Court on Tuesday, in the aftermath of recent incidents in City Centre on September 23. The suspects, who are in custody pending trial, stand accused of unlicensed rallying, public incitement on regime-hatred and taking part in illegal demonstrations, thus subverting security, disrupting public order, harming people and compromising their interests, according to a statement published by the BNA.
The Public Prosecution referred them to the Criminal Court, based on their confession during the investigation as well as witnesses’ testimonies. Last Friday, saboteurs stormed City Centre, chanting instigative slogans, terrorizing people and disrupting work at shops, prompting the closure of the mall.
“Public security forces intervened to disperse the rally, arresting 55 protestors”, Prosecutor Wael Bualley said.
Twenty-three of them will be put on an urgent trial at the Criminal Court. The suspects face compelling evidence, including surveillance camera tapes and photos. The other suspects have been released pending investigation.
