Bahrain International Airport’s (BIA) Annual Safety Week was launched in an opening ceremony at the Movenpick Hotel. The campaign’s objective is to raise awareness and promote safe driving at the Airport’s airside, under the slogan, “Stay Safe – Drive Safe: Be on the safe side, when you’re on the airside”.
The Annual Safety Week is organized by Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) and in close coordination and support from its Airport partners; the Civil Aviation Affairs, Bahrain Airport Services, Bahrain Aviation Fueling Company, Bahrain Duty Free, Gulf Air and DHL. Other key national organizations are also participating by contributing with training programs including ASRY, ALBA and Salmaniya Medical Complex. The Annual Safety Week is a key component of BAC’s ongoing efforts to ensure that all Airport operators are protected and adhere to the world class safety regulations applied at BIA.
The campaign program involves a series of training sessions throughout the week (Sunday 18th-Thursday 22nd) for all Airport staff that drive in airside locations. The sessions will aim to refresh the drivers on the regulations that govern driving airside, as well as the promotion of safe driving techniques and how to handle driving conditions. The later part of the campaign will consist of quizzes at the airside for drivers and the US Navy’s medical team will also be giving free medical checks for all drivers.
BAC’s CEO, Gordon Dewar praised the concerted efforts by all BIA partners to promote and practice the best safety techniques in all their operations.
“At Bahrain Airport Company, we believe that the success of Bahrain International Airport requires the cooperation of all Airport partners working together towards the common vision of building and operating the Best Airport for Bahrain, and today’s launch is a prime example of the strong level of cooperation with our partners as we all seek to uphold this objective. As an international airport, we all take the safety of our staff, the infrastructure, our customer airlines, passengers and all those who use the Airport, very seriously. Safety always comes first,” he said.
The event was attended by key officials from Airport partners and airlines, including the Undersecretary for Civil Aviation Affairs, Captain Abdulrahman Al Gaoud, who also addressed the attendees, stressing the importance of strict safety regulations and lauding the safety efforts, achievements and track records of all Airport partners and airlines.
