Bahrain, which raised $4 million donations in cash in less than 24 hours in support of famine stricken Somali people, is planning to build a hospital and nursing training college in Somalia as part of Kingdom’s mid-term charity welfare projects.
The Royal Charity organization board of trustees’ chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa lauded the efforts of the Bahrain Radio and Television Broadcasting Corporation to ensure the success of the Bahrain’s “BH4Somalia Telethon.
He also paid tribute to the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry for supporting the charity effort and urging the trade sectors respond with the campaign, which was launched following directives from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, also RCO honorary president, to extend an urgent lifeline to famine-stricken Somali people.
Meanwhile, the RCO has already started its humanitarian relief-aid campaign in Somalia.
RCO secretary-general Dr Mustafa Al-Sayyed met a Somali delegation comprising Al-Tawfeeq Charity Society Chairman Dr Mohammed Abda Adam and Kismayo College of Nursing dean Dr Abdulsamad Abubakr, and discussed preparatory measures to ensure the safe delivery of relief aid to distressed people in dire need.
The two sides discussed plans to construct a hospital and a college of nursing in the name of Bahrain in Kismayo, in Southern Somalia. The planned projects are expected to train administrative, medical and technical staff and ensure health and humanitarian for up to three million people.
The charity effort is being coordinated with the Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank for its pioneering role in launching and supervision such projects.
