Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa took part in a high-profile meeting on Libya, which was organized by the United Nations on the sidelines of the 66th session of its General Assembly.
The meeting was chaired by the UN Secretary General, in the presence of US President Barack Obama, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and other leaders.
Shaikh Khalid hailed in his speech the efforts of UN Chief Ban Ki-moon and his keenness to build the new Libyan state stressing Bahrain’s commitment to the mechanism he proposed at Paris Summit to help the Libyan people and the National Transitional Council.
He also praised the efforts made by Libya Contact Group, in cooperation with the UN, in this regard. He affirmed that Bahrain will always honour its obligations towards the Libyan people underlining the need to boost civil peace and protect Libya’s independence and territorial integrity.
