Two members of Bahrain’s national handball team have been jailed for 15 years, found guilty of arson, possessing weapons and stealing money, according to Information Affairs Authority (IAA) statement.
Mohammad and Ali Mirza were among a mob of 32 Bahrainis, who were found guilty of burning down farms during the unrest in Bahrain in March.
The members of the mob were charged with bulldozing their way into the farms with a tractor.
Ali Jawad, a beach handball player, was another of the 32 Bahrainis who were all sentenced yesterday to 15 years in prison for burning down the same farms.
“The Bahrain government would like to stress that they have been found guilty of serious crimes, and have been sentenced for these crimes, and not for simply protesting. Nobody in Bahrain is above the law, “an IAA spokesman, added.
The 32 convicts have 14 days to launch an appeal against their sentences.
