Italian Ambassador to Bahrain Enrico Padul on Monday said that every country must respect the ownership of Libyan people being govern by the Transitional National Council (TNC).
“The Italian government’s vision is for the management of the post Gadhafi transition is based on three pillars i.e. ownership, international cohesion and long-term engagement.
Ambassador Enrico Padul addressing a Press conference said that Italy despite being the closest ally in terms of ties as well as in proximity believes in respecting the right of the Libyan people on ownership of natural resources.
“We being the front state for helping people of Libya from day one of this crisis firmly believe that there should be a multilateral approach in all issues including the fate of the natural resources,” the Italian envoy explained.
Historically speaking Italy had officially apologized to the Libyan people about the Colonial history.
“Italy and Libya enjoy good ties in economic, security and other sectors which further supported by the proximity and geographical location of both countries,” he said, adding that Italy has strong interest in Libyan democracy and we would continue to support the legitimate government of our neighboring state Libya.
“Italy has been most heavily engaged in the Libyan mission militarily, diplomatically and from the humanitarian point of view. People of both Italy and Libya have had very historic ties,” he said.
