Minister of Justice and Islamic Affairs and Endowments Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa hailed the issuance of Royal Decree No. (3) for the year 2011 regarding creation of the National Fund for Indemnification to adversely affected persons in the light of the fundamental principles embodied in the UN General Assembly Resolution No: 147/60 for the year 2005.
The Decree aims at extending compensation assistance to anyone who sustained any material and/or moral damage or physical injury whether they belong to public security forces, government employees or other individual persons as a result of the incidents that took place during February and March 2011 and afterwards.
The Minister of Justice remarked that the Decree contributes with assistance to victims and their relatives up to the fourth degree as well as dependents.
The Minister emphasized that the decree-by-law constitutes a unique precedent and a typical transformation in jurisprudence and legal practice and respecting the principles of human rights and is the first of its kind in the region and reflects the extent of the government’s keenness in responding to any claim of abuse whether by security personnel or government employees or individual persons.
The decree comes in line with the optimum practices of international law extending assistance to eligible individual persons.
