Nominations for the 2011-2012 edition of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa’s Award for Municipal Work can be submitted between November 1, 2011 and June 30th, 2012, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Dr. Juma Al Ka’abi announced on Tuesday. On this occasion, Dr. Al Ka’abi extended his sincere thanks and gratitude to HRH Premier for patronizing such a prestigious award, reflecting his constant keenness to support and consolidate the essential role of municipal work in achieving sustainable development.
The purpose of the award is s to support and encourage all initiatives launched to improve the quality of municipal services, he also said, adding that it also aims to highlight the tremendous efforts made by municipalities, associations, NGOs and individuals in this regard and promote the municipal work culture among citizens and expatriates.
He also explained that the awards contains five categories, including the best municipal work plan aiming to upgrade municipal services, the most committed area in terms of adherence to municipal laws, sponsors of municipal projects among companies and institutions, the best research in the field of municipal work and the best NGOs’ contributions to municipal work in terms of lectures and awareness-raising campaigns.
Dr. Al Ka’abi also highlighted the importance of municipal work as one of the key tributaries of the National Project His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa who considers it as a pillar of sustainable development, adding that HRH Premier’s patronage of the award testifies to the government’s keen interest to enhance municipal work nationwide.
