Over 187000 eligible voters are set to elect 14 members of the lower house of the parliament during the nation-wide polling kicked off on Saturday morning.
Bahrainis started morning at 8 am heading to polling stations to cast their votes in the parliament by-elections and elect 14 m, our of 55 candidates, in the Northern, Capital and Central Governorates, with 187,080 people eligible to cast their ballots.
Four members of the parliament have already been elected unopposed. The bye-elections executive committee had finalized all logistic preparations to welcome voters. Voting is underway in 21 polling stations- 14 located in constituencies, in addition to seven public centres.
The Interior Ministry in a statement said that it was stepping up security at polling stations to ensure voters’ safety and the smooth flow of traffic heading to by-elections venues.
The voting process at all polling stations largely remained smooth and expected to close at 8pm as per the schedule.
