Building on its community-communication efforts with local and global entities, Tamkeen delegates met with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Deputy Resident Representative (DRP) in Bahrain Firas F. Gharaibeh to discuss ways and means of translating the promise of youth and their capabilities into nation-building development.
Both sides agreed that Tamkeen’s youth strategies in cooperation with the General Organisation for Youth and Sport (GOYS) and the UNDP in Bahrain will provide Bahrain’s youth with the best options for the future.
Gharaibeh briefed the delegates on the role the UNDP in the Kingdom of Bahrain which includes on-going consultations and meetings with a number of government entities and working towards establishing sustainable partnerships to realise key objectives for the Kingdom. Gharaibeh said that national ownership and leadership form part of the major principles of UNDP partnership with programme countries like Bahrain.
Gharaibeh praised the Bahraini government for its support of the United Nations since 1971 on different fronts, including enabling the smooth functioning of the UN office in Manama, active participation in a number of UN conventions and the commitment of the Kingdom to international standards and UN principles. He said that the initiatives carried out by Tamkeen in cooperation with UNDP schemes in Bahrain have resulted in clarity, growth and better development of youth, gender equality, green business, and human rights.
Tamkeen’s Vice President of Enterprise and Human Capital Development Dr. Ahmed Abdul Hameed Abdul Ghani Al-Shaikh said the agency was committed to integrating youth into Bahrain’s national economic development cycle through innovative human capital development schemes. He said Tamkeen valued the role undertaken by the UNDP in Bahrain pertaining to addressing the socio-economic needs of the population, woman empowerment, democratic governance and political development, employment, institutional capacity development, environmental management, public-private sector partnership, and development policies.
The Tamkeen and UNDP teams looked at different ways to serve as a platform for further human capital development, both parties agreed to conduct a presentation on their programmes and activities in the UNDP premises.
The meeting was attended by Tamkeen’s Dr. Ahmed Abdulhameed Abdul Ghani Al-Shaikh, Private Sector Support Manager Qusay Al Arrayedh, Human Capital Development Projects Coordinator Mohamed Ali Ahmadi, and from UNDP the Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Bahrain Firas F. Gharaibeh; Programme Analyst Ali Hassan,; and UNDP’s Youth Strategy consultant Dr. Ahmed Jazouli.
