Bahrain’s ambassador His Highness Shaikh Abdullah Al-Fatih bin Mohammed Al Khalifa emphasized the Kingdom of Bahrain’s full commitment to the provisions of international conventions pertaining to disarmament and international security.
His Highness the ambassador cited the special significance given by the Kingdom regarding a Middle East that is free from all weapons of mass destruction pointing out the need for Israel to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the need to make Israeli nuclear installations compliant with IAEA’s regulations
This statement was made by His Highness at the United Nations General Assembly during the first committee discussion on disarmament and international security, citing national actions taken by the Kingdom of Bahrain to implement the chemical weapons ban as His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa Monarch of the Kingdom of Bahrain ratified a legislation to comply with the treaty by issuance of Act No. (5) for the year 2009 regarding banning introduction, production, storage and use of chemical weaponry and destruction of such weapons, and also as the Kingdom of Bahrain has formed its national committee for banning chemical weapons and assigned the committee the task of implementing this treaty nationwide, as well as the issuance of Resolution No. (5) for the year 2011 by His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa the Prime Minister.
