The Minister of Energy, Chairman of National Oil and Gas Authority, Chairman of Bapco’s Board, Dr. Abdulhussain bin Ali Mirza laid the foundation stone of BAPCO’s Refinery Environmental District, which has been demarcated at the eastern side of the Refinery.
BAPCO is at the forefront of Bahrain’s green drive and has implemented several environmental projects such as the Refinery Gas Desulphurization Plant Project, the Waste Water Treatment Plant Project and the Carbon Dioxide Recovery Plant Project in recent times at a total cost in excess of $250 million.
As an industry leader, BAPCO has taken upon itself the responsibility of pushing through numerous initiatives that have helped in not only increasing overall awareness of environmental issues, but also demonstrated that sustainable progress is achievable without damaging the environment. The Refinery Environmental District has been conceived in line with this concept and commitment of BAPCO.
The Refinery Environmental District will cover areas occupied by BAPCO’s environmental projects and will be a ‘green’ statement to the outside world. The district will have more than 1.7 kilometers of landscaping and every effort shall be made to sustain and enhance the ‘greenification’ of this area. This is another step by BAPCO to demonstrate to the world that ‘We Care’, which is the current theme of its Environment, Health and Safety policy.
