Dr Abdulhussein bin Ali Mirza, the Minister of Energy on Wednesday announced a major milestone in the history of Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco), in co-operation with its partners, successfully started the basic oil production in the Kingdom of Bahrain
The Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco), Neste Oil and Nogaholding have successfully started commercial production of base oils at the new base oil plant in Bahrain. The joint venture plant produces premium quality Very High Viscosity Index (VHVI) Group III base oils for use in blending top-tier lubricants and has a production capacity of 400,000 metric tonne annually.
Commenting on this occasion, Minister of Energy, Chairman of National Oil and Gas Authority and Chairman of Bapco’s board of directors Dr. Abdulhussain bin Ali Mirza expressed pride in this ambitious project saying it is line with the directives of the Kingdom of Bahrain towards diversifying sources of income. He said it is also part of the policies and strategies of the Vision 2030. The Minister said the new plant is a landmark in the latest technologies in industry.
“We are delighted with the successful start-up of this promising project. The new plant reflects National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) and Bapco’s ongoing commitment to diversify income in support of the national economy of Bahrain, and also reflects our continuous commitment for entering into promising partnerships with leading establishments worldwide,” Bapco’s Chief Executive, Faisal Al-Mahroos, said, while commenting on the landmark achievement.
“The new plant is a great achievement, as it is one of the world’s largest units of its type and features the latest technology,” Neste Oil’s Executive Vice President Matti Lehmus, said on this occasion.
“Thanks to close cooperation among the partners, we were able to get the plant up and running within the very challenging three-year schedule originally announced,” he added.
