The Human Rights Committee at the Gathering of National Unity (GNU) in its final report said that it had received almost 7000 complaints pertaining to human right violations during the period of mid-February to mid-Mrach this year.
GNU had prepared related to documenting the complaints of those effected and making clear the extent of damage that incurred a vast section of society during the incidents witnessed in the Kingdom during February and March.
This has been presented through providing documents and truths to the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) that was formed by a Royal order. The report was presented during a press conference held on Saturday at the (GNU) headquarters chaired by Head of the Human Rights Committee Dr Adel Abdullah and in the presence of President of the GNU Dr Abdulatif Al Mahmood.
Dr Adel thanked volunteers who had contributed in preparing the committee’s report for the BICI. He said that the committee was keen on being a channel through which people could directly communicate their complaints to the BICI and creating a trustworthy means to doing so.
The reports said Dr Adel included psychological analysis on the impact of violence on children and the scenario of violence during the crisis. Moreover, he indicated that the report was prepared utilizing international standards and was presented to international organizations during Dr Al Mahmood’s visits.
Dr Adel stated that a total of 7435 complaints were received 454 of which were false making the total 6981. The total of male complaints were 3674 and female 3305 with 5271 from Bahrainis and 520 from non-Bahrainis.
Report findings indicate that the most affected by were from the Syrian community with a percentage of 19.8 followed by residents from Bangladesh with 16.3 percent and Yemenis with a percentage of 15.8. The complaints that were received said Dr Adel came from 66 areas in Bahrain with a concentration on Budaiya, Hidd and Hamad Town.
Most of their suffering according to the report was psychological forming 72.1 percent, medical with 27.3 percent, traffic blockage 24.7 percent and educational abandonment was 23.1 percent. Meanwhile, head of the medical committee Jassim Al Mohannadi said that 80 percent suffered psychologically as the culture of sectarianism was being promoted triggering sedition.
