The Information Affairs Authority’s President Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa participated in the 19th GCC Information Ministers’ meeting held in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The IAA’s President emphasized the significance of inter-GCC meetings and their vital role in reviewing media cooperation and exchanging expertise in the various fields as well as implementation of joint programs and projects to serve progressive information in the GCC countries.
The IAA’s President also said that the foreseeable future, with fast developments in the region, imminent need arises for speedy and continuous moves to support and boost mutual cooperation and coordination adopting common policy and strategy to encounter hostile media specifically provocative TV channels which have recently been in the habit of stark interference into GCC internal affairs. IAA’s President stressed the importance of availing from the popularity gained by new mass media and utilizing them for the best interest of everybody particularly the social networks in order to neutralize malicious rumors targeting the GCC security, stability and reputation.
IAA’s President added that the approval by GCC ministers and officials of IAA’s proposal submitted by Bahrain News Agency (BNA) and the executive steps taken by IAA regarding launching the proposal of a joint GCC account on the social networks is considered a unique launching of GCC networking system.
GCC secretary-general Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani praised the Kingdom of Bahrain’s proposal regarding launching of a consolidated joint GCC social networking account and emphasized that the efforts made by the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Information Affairs Authority (IAA) in its speedy implementation within a few weeks after proposing it, is considered a record in implementing GCC media-related projects.
UAE’s minister of Public Works president of the National Information Authority Shaikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al-Nahayan who chaired the meeting and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Abdul-Aziz bin Mohei-ul-Din Khoja hailed the executive steps taken by the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Information Affairs Authority in investing in social media channels to serve the GCC’s progressive media.
IAA’s President Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa expressed his gratitude and appreciation to UAE’s minister of Public Affairs Shaikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al-Nahayan who chaired the meeting as well as UAE’s National Information Authority’s personnel for the kind, generous hospitality for which the UAE people are well-known lauding the great success they made of the meeting and also hailed GCC Information Ministers and officials for their laudable efforts they made in preparation for the meeting.
