Interior Minister Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa received Human Rights Without Borders International director Willy Foutre, in the presence of Public Security chief Major-General Tarak Mubarak bin Dayna.
He lauded the efforts of the international watchdog, stressing the ministry’s keenness to cooperate with it to bolster the principles of human rights.
“Bahrain is presently recovering from the crisis from the recent crisis it confronted”, he said, citing the Kingdom’s efforts over the past years to promote human rights to keep pace with the democratic transition which started ten years ago when His Majesty launched his landmark reform project.
He said that the ministry put the respect of human rights and basic liberties on top of its priorities. In this regard, he pointed out the establishment of a directorate specialized in addressing complaints and promoting human rights issues.
The panel implements programmes to this regard and undertakes periodic assessment of procedures with concerned parties. Lt. General Shaikh Rashid said that the ministry would implement the BICI recommendations.
He also announced that the ministry was in the process of renewing the agreement which was signed previously with the International Red Cross to promote cooperation in the field of human rights. Foutre said Human Rights Without Borders International would continue following-up events in Bahrain and their fallouts, hoping to reach a peaceful settlement to the crisis
