His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa paid tribute to the United Nations for its crucial role promoting social and economic development in the Kingdom of Bahrain and other countries in the world.
This came as he received at Al-Safriya Palace new UNDP Coordinator and Resident Representative Peter Grohmann. HM King congratulated Grohmann on the occasion of the UN Day.
The event also marks the 40th anniversary of Bahrain’s admission to the United Nations. HM King Hamad reaffirmed Bahrain’s keenness to promote partnership with the UN in all fields.
He congratulated Grohmann on his new position in Bahrain, wishing him success in assuming his duties.
He stressed Bahrain’s resolve to bolster cooperation with the international organisation, lauding the UN pivotal role in preserving global security and peace and its humanitarian contribution in serving the international community.
HM the King stressed the importance of reform programmes and modernization steps in ensuring landmark achievements in all fields for Bahrain.
He also reaffirmed resolve to continue the march of reform and development towards meeting the desired goals for the sake of the nation and citizens. Grohmann expressed thanks to HM the King for Bahrain’s support and cooperation.
He hailed HM the King’s keynote session at the 66th session of the UN General Assembly, hailing the Kingdom’s political, economic and development achievements.
He also stressed the importance of the National Constitution and the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI), describing them as positive steps and reiterating the UN support for the Kingdom’s reform strides. UNDP-led development programmes and activities in the Kingdom of Bahrain were also discussed.
