His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa issued a Royal Order to establish a national commission to follow up and implement the recommendations of the Bahraini Independent Commission of Inquiry.
The BICI report, issued on Wednesday last, examined the events that took place during the unrest in Bahrain of February and March of this year. In addition to investigating a myriad of charges made during that period, the report details recommendations for the Government of Bahrain to bring it in line with international Human Rights standards.
The Royal Order issued Saturday stipulates that an independent commission, to be called the National Commission, is to be established, with its formation and powers to be based upon Paragraph 1715 of the BICI report.
The National Commission will examine the recommendations of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry and make its own recommendations, including the recommendations to make the necessary amendments to the legislation and the application of the recommendations.
The National Commission will expedite its work and complete it within a framework of transparency before the end of February 2012. However, the government will endeavour to implement those recommendations that can be implemented without delay, rather than waiting for the recommendations of the National Commission.
