Manama Capital of Arab Culture 2012 will be officially launched in January, Culture Minister Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa in a statement said.
She held a press conference in the iconic Taz Palace in Egypt to outline the programme of Manama Capital of Arab Culture 2012. Prominent will be invited to attend the pan-Arab event and series of foreign books will be translated into Arabic. The programme also features workshops, exhibitions and art shows. The ministry chose Egypt as a destination to promote Manama Capital of Arab Culture 2012 in recognition of its cultural role in the Arab world. The aim is to build a partnership with Egyptian men of culture and journalists and exchange views and ideas, in a move to reach to other Arab countries. “Manama Capital of Arab Culture 2012 will project Bahrain’s heritage and culture”, she addressed journalists. The ministry plans to promote Manama Capital of Arab Culture 2012 in other Arab and foreign capitals as well.
